Prevention Of Ingrown Hairs

The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to stop depilation. Our body hair plays an important role in protecting our skin. However, if you insist, it is better to take some precautions.

Prevention of ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs are those that have been shaved or depilated, but then grow back under the skin. When this happens, the problem is usually accompanied by inflammation and pain. There will also be small swellings where the hair has been  removed.

Anyone who removes their hair can suffer , whether they use razors, tweezers or wax. Even if ingrown hairs do not pose a risk in themselves, they are still a nuisance for those affected.

They are particularly common among African American men who shave their beards, but no one is excluded from this problem.

They can appear on the face, scalp, armpits, genital area and legs.

How do ingrown hairs come about?

The structure of the hair follicle plays an important role in ingrown hairs.

The most important factor here is the structure of the hair and the direction in which it grows. There are curved hair follicles that give rise to rolled hairs. As a result, they grow in faster after removal.

If the hair grows again, it does so under the skin. Some of them have a very sharp edge after they are shaved off. This especially happens if they are dry to shave.

The risk of ingrown hairs is greater if you remove them with tweezers. They often leave fragments behind, which then grow back under the skin. Also, if you tighten your skin before depilation, it is more likely that this will happen.

The best way to avoid ingrown hairs

It is best to avoid depilation. Humans have hair all over their bodies, with the exception of the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and mucous membranes. Body hair serves to protect our skin, so it is not nonsensical.

Our body hair protects us from dust, dirt, sunlight and the damage that the wind can do to us.

It also plays an important role as a defense mechanism against bacteria and other microorganisms. At the same time, it helps us to regulate our body temperature.

Depilation can lead to changes in natural hair growth and ingrown hairs.

The body hair also absorbs sweat so that it does not cause skin irritation. It transfers sweat to refresh or dry some areas.

Depilation, on the other hand, changes natural hair growth and therefore it is best to avoid it so that there are no complications in the first place.

Measures to avoid ingrown hairs

If you still don’t want to do without depilation, you should at least take a few precautionary measures to avoid annoying, ingrown hairs.

These are particularly recommended:

  • Exfoliate regularly, as this will keep the pores clean and give the skin plenty of moisture. This makes depilation easier and smoother.
  • Pay attention to your fluid balance. If you don’t drink enough water, the skin becomes hard and dries out. This makes it more difficult for the hairs to poke through the skin as they grow.
  • Prepare your skin. Before shaving, moisten them with lukewarm water. This helps the pores open and reduces the risk of ingrown hairs.
  • Humidity. You should apply a moisturizing gel or cream before you start depilation. This makes the hairs softer and the skin smoother.
  • The right blade. It is best not to use the same blade more than 3 times. This is because it becomes dull and can therefore damage the skin. There is no evidence that double blades are better than single ones. You have to try for yourself which one is best for you.

Also pay attention to:

  • Regularity. It is best to shave daily to avoid ingrown hairs. If that doesn’t work, it should be done as often as possible.
  • The right technique. You have to shave in the same direction that your hair grows. So you change their natural growth less.
  • Do not tense the skin. The skin should not be tensed during depilation. If you let go of it, the hair will pull back and it will grow in faster.
  • Cleanliness. The razor should be washed out after each pull of the blade. After shaving you have to wash the skin area well and apply a gentle lotion.
