Girl Saves Grandfather After A Heart Attack
Thanks to the resuscitation techniques for heart and lungs that she had learned days before from her PE teacher, Eva was able to revive her grandfather when he suffered his second heart attack.
The 11-year-old girl Eva Prévot did a heroic deed: she saved her grandfather’s life!
A few days earlier, the PE teacher had shown the girl how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and it happened that this lesson would be her most important so far.
This happy family, proud of their young and courageous (grand) daughter, has received constant calls from journalists from all over the world who are interested in their story.
Eva shows herself to be extraordinarily mature and reminds us of the importance of everyone learning how to do a heart-lung massage.
You never know when you will need it and use it to save lives, including the lives of loved ones.
Here you can find out more about this story that took place in La Coruña, Spain.
The day Eva’s grandfather had his second heart attack
It wasn’t the first time that Grandfather’s heart stopped beating. Not so long ago, he came back from the hospital after his first heart attack and was cared for intensely by the whole family.
But nobody is prepared for the unexpected blows of fate that life sometimes holds in store.
- The girl was just eleven when it happened. It was getting late and she was doing her homework in her room when she suddenly heard her grandmother screaming from downstairs.
- Something had happened, although in a way she already figured that Grandmother’s desperation must have something to do with Grandfather.
- Mr. Manuel had just had another heart attack. He was lying on the floor. Shivering and frightened, they dialed the emergency number, something little Eva had to do because her grandmother was unable to act.
- The first responders gave her instructions on what to do. The support would take some time and there was nothing left but to take matters into your own hands with a clear head.
Eva knew exactly what to do. Shortly before, she had received a course on performing a cardiopulmonary massage from her PE teacher.
So she stayed calm and first checked whether Grandfather still had a pulse.
When she did not notice anything, and her grandfather was also not breathing, she started without thinking too much about performing the resuscitation movements for ten long minutes, without ceasing, without even stopping, and with all determination.
She wouldn’t let her grandfather leave her. It didn’t matter that her hands were way too small or that her grandmother kept crying behind her. In fact, she never stopped resuscitating him. “That would end well.”
And so it was. When the paramedics arrived, they relieved them. Mr Manuel woke up a few hours later in the intensive care unit where they told him what had happened: “Your granddaughter Eva saved your life.”
The heart-lung massage that saves lives
Mr. Manuel was in the hospital for two months. After all the support and help from his granddaughter and family, he faces the Laben very differently. He feels stronger and more connected to his family.
Eva, for her part, thanked her teacher warmly after she saw that her grandfather was fine and that he had survived the second heart attack.
When her teacher heard the story, he was moved to tears. Nothing is better than knowing that the knowledge imparted could save lives.

You can take a look at this technique on a doll on the following page. See cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Hopefully you will never need it, but if the situation calls for it, don’t forget to stay calm and act confidently.
